Brahma Shala: white sheer drapes gathered under a dark timber roof, a blue lantern, and a carved door open to the garden

House of Surrender

Take one slow breath here before you scroll.

A retreat and event venue in Ubud, made for freedom of expression. Three spaces for kink, tantra, naturism and embodied work.

Some spaces encourage you to perform. This one encourages you to soften.

We made this house for freedom of expression. For kink, naturism, tantra and every kind of embodied work. It is sex positive and body positive, and everyone is welcome here.

There is no other space like it in Bali. It was made exactly for the events, workshops and retreats that sit on the fringe of society’s norms. Somewhere our community can teach in safety, and attend in safety.

We believe in ripples. Joy, safety, pleasure, being fully seen. What happens in a space like this does not stay small.

Two carved stone lions guarding an old timber door, with a garden path beyond

Three spaces. Each one holds a different kind of work.

Brahma Shala in daylight: timber floor, white curtains on every wall, a blue lantern hanging from the peaked roof

Brahma Shala

Indoor. Comfortably holds 36.

The largest space, and the heart of the house. Dark timber overhead and underfoot, white drapes on every side, a carved door open to the garden. Big enough for ceremony and movement. Quiet enough for the moment after.

Kali Shala, an open-air pavilion in the garden with white curtains tied at each post and cushions laid in a circle

Kali Shala

Open air. Comfortably holds 16.

A pavilion in the garden with white curtains on all sides. Draw them for privacy or tie them back and let the green in. Small by design, for groups that want to stay close.

Shivatri Temple, a white space inside the main house with pillars, draped ceiling and floor cushions

Shivatri Temple

Indoor, inside the main house. Comfortably holds 26.

White pillars, floor cushions and an easy, casual feel. Good for circles, teaching days and the smaller gatherings that do not need a stage.

What the spaces are for.

Two women standing with arms open and eyes closed, in front of red curtains.

Presence first.

A man and a woman sitting in meditation beside a carved wooden sculpture, red curtains behind them.

Consent in everything.

Two women dancing, eyes closed, in front of red and gold curtains.
A hand resting on a bare shoulder.

Play, taken seriously.

Photographed during an embodiment retreat in the Brahma Shala, dressed in red and gold. Everyone pictured agreed to be seen.

The pool at sunset, loungers along the edge and the sky on fire above the garden

Around the spaces

A pool for the hours between sessions, and for the nights when the lights come up in the water. An open field. Gardens to walk in when someone needs a minute alone. A kitchen and dining space, so everyone can eat together.

More on the grounds

The pool from above on a clear day, loungers along the water and palms against a blue sky
The outdoor kitchen bench under a thatched roof, surrounded by tropical plants

Gatherings

Our own gatherings are free, and small on purpose. We open the house to our community to sit together, try ideas and shape the workshops and retreats to come. Places are held through the Threshold.

Hiring the house for a public event? We can list it here. Send us the details with your booking.

The threshold

Our gatherings are private. That is what lets people come as they are.

Every place is held through the Threshold. You apply once. We read every application ourselves. If it is a fit, we send you what you need to come through.

Consent is not a formality here. It is the ground everything else stands on.

How the Threshold works

A carved wooden sculpture of two entwined figures wrapped in prayer beads, lit red
A woman from behind, hands lifted into her hair, in warm red light

Come as you are.
